Let's Talk Winter Weddings | The Lighting

Now, we all know that lighting is one of the most important elements of a wedding. But just how important is it? And how do you know what to use, and where to use it to compliment your colour schemes and styling? We’re here to answer all these questions to help make your perfect day just that, perfect.

What you may not know, is that although Spring, Summer and Autumn are BoxGrove’s most popular seasons among our clients, there is an unrivalled opportunity for lighting that accompanies a wedding held in winter months. As the daylight hours lessen around June and July in Bathurst, there is more time for dimmed afternoons that grow into shadowy nights, that can then be brightened by the glow of flickering candles and vintage-filament globes.

Hot Tip: Make sure your photographer is equipped and experienced to photograph in these conditions if this is an option you are considering. Many photographers are experienced photographing in natural, outdoor lighting, so it is important to consider. We recommend Michael Briggs, Olguin Photography, Willow & Co, and BoxGrove’s own Ben Fry, who specialises in low light photography.

The Barn is renown for its incredible lighting that drapes and glows and creates an unrivalled mood from its use of space. Exploit our festoon lights that drape effortlessly up the wooden beams to create that romantic and cosy atmosphere, with the option to dim at your leisure. Not exclusive to the barn, these lights can also be utilised outdoors on The Tiers to bring light and life to your night. This lighting option gives a real celebration vibe to any reception, and those winter bookings give wedding-goers that whimsical, warm mood for longer, really getting guests involved in the celebration of your day.

Dropped Bulbs

Using dropped bulbs at your wedding or reception creates an instant ambience that is both visually stunning and practical in its contract to gently light the faces of family and guests. Weave them into hanging florals or suspend an abstract arrangement of them behind the bridal table to bring all eyes onto the bride and groom. BoxGrove have every shape globe you can think of from banana to the classic oversized round globe to tailer your unique personality to your lighting needs.

Neon Signs

The theatrical nature of you and your partners name lit up in a neon-glow will make a dramatic addition to your reception that will stand out among the softer radiance of the surrounding lighting. “Mr & Mrs” pairs perfectly with the neon to exert simplicity that has joined forces with a contemporary style that few are game to utilise.

Lanterns

Nothing says rustic country charm like a golden framed, cloudy glass lantern kissed with fingertip smudges and the memories the melted wax below could tell from previous weddings. We love using candles as table styling at BoxGrove, but their uses are limitless and can be suspended from beams or stacked on different levels to compliment grazing platters or the gift table. Fill these gems with a bundle of scrunched copper string lights, a tea light or pillar candle and you will create an instant mood that can’t be extinguished.

At BoxGrove, we don’t think its possible to have too many candles. Who doesn’t want to sip on their rosé in the dancing blaze of scented pillar candles as you reminisce on the magical afternoon you’ve just spent as newly-weds? Not to mention candles are the perfect option if you maybe spent a little too much of the budget on those amazing hanging florals and extravagant arbour. Whether it be a small tea light, or an elegant taper candle on your reception tables, the impact that they will make will be uncompromised.
